Having Cancer is like being Pregnant: A list of similarities

I started musing about how cancer is like pregnacy right before my first round of chemo.  At that point, I swear I was cancer nesting.  Running around like a crazy woman making sure everything was ready for the eventuality that I was going to feel crappy after chemo.
Here is a rambling list:
1.  You don't tell people until you are positive it is true.  Why get them all excited or upset?
2.  You think about it all the time.
3.  There are hundreds of books you can buy all about it.
4.  You reach a point where you can't hide the fact anymore.  Big Belly or Bald Head
5.  Strangers have advice or a story they just have to share with you.  Horror stories or helpful tips
6.  You feel tired a lot of the time.
7.  Morning Sickness
8.  Constipation
9.  Your brain is in a fog most of the time...Chemo brain or Pregnancy fog
10. You get special treatment.  Friends and loved ones spoil you

Next, maybe I'll start a list of cancer items I wished I had when I was not having to shave your legs ;-)

  1. This made me laugh out loud! I love your brainiac sarcasm...My brain doesn't work that way, but I enjoy listening (reading) to someone that does!! You are truly a gift and an inspiration to so many!!!

  2. Girl, you crack me up! I reacted like TJ did. I laughed out loud. I'm so glad that you are able to seek out positives. I work with so many patients who are unable to cope with their illnesses. Constant complaining and griping really doesn't change matters, they just breed more negativity. You are proof that that attitude is everything. No, you are not going to feel good all the time. If you think about it, before you were diagnosed with cancer you didn't feel good all the time. We all have good days and bad. It's how we deal with it that changes lives...ours. Much love!

  3. Thanks girls for getting my humor. I keep telling myself "how bad can it be if that in-grown toenail is still bothering you?" Perspective is everything.
